At Little Road Veterinary Clinic, we’re committed to offering advanced diagnostic tools right here in our clinic — so your pet gets the answers they need without unnecessary stress or referral delays. We’re proud to offer on-site veterinary ultrasound services through our partnership with Dr. Debra Drake of Mobile Imaging Veterinary Ultrasound (MIVU) in New Port Richey.
Partnering with Dr. Drake allows us to provide detailed imaging studies for our patients, when they need it. Once completed, comprehensive diagnostic reports are sent directly to our care team so we can discuss findings and next steps to help your pet right away, or to let you know all is well.
What Is A Veterinary Ultrasound?
Ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic imaging technique that uses sound waves to produce real-time images of your pet’s internal organs and tissues. It has become a standard of care in veterinary medicine, offering a safe, accurate, and often faster alternative to more invasive diagnostics without radiation.
Ultrasound is especially valuable when blood work or X-rays suggest an underlying issue, but don’t tell the full story. It helps our veterinarians see what’s happening inside so we can make confident, informed decisions about your pet’s care.
When Might My Dog Or Cat Need An Ultrasound?
Your veterinarian may recommend an ultrasound if your pet has:
- Rapid Weight Loss: Unexplained weight loss or changes in appetite.
- Digestive Issues: Vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal discomfort.
- Abnormal Blood Work: May suggest organ involvement.
- Mass Or Swelling: A suspected mass or swelling.
- Cardiac Concerns: A heart murmur or suspected cardiac condition.
- Breathing Difficulties: Difficulty breathing or fluid accumulation.
- Reproductive Health: Concerns or a suspected pregnancy.
Ultrasound Services Available:
Our abdominal ultrasound exams are thorough, complete evaluations of your pet’s internal organs, including:
- Liver, gallbladder, and biliary system
- Stomach and intestines
- Pancreas, spleen, and kidneys
- Adrenal glands and bladder
- Prostate, uterus, and ovaries
- Lymph nodes, vasculature, and mesenteric surfaces
An echocardiogram uses ultrasound to evaluate your pet’s heart structure and function. This imaging can identify:
- Heart valve structure and movement
- Chamber sizes and wall thickness
- Myocardial (heart muscle) contractility
- Congenital defects
- Cardiac pressures and outflow tract velocities
All echocardiograms are reviewed by a board-certified cardiologist for interpretation and treatment recommendations. Systemic blood pressure is also obtained during each cardiac exam.
